As Bali prepares to welcome hundreds of thousands more tourists as the high season gets underway, tourism leaders around the island are launching a series of seasonal events and cultural performances for visitors to enjoy.

One such destination is Ulun Danu Beratan, which will be hosting a Gebogan Parade every day throughout July and August.

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is one of Bali’s most famous cultural landmarks. Although tourists do not know this iconic landmark by name, they surely know it by sight. The temple is even featured on all IDR 50,000 bank notes printed between 2000 and 2014.

As part of the high season celebrations, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple has teamed up with neighboring Blooms Garden to host a series of Gebogan Parades for tourists to enjoy. Bali is on a mission to encourage more holidaymakers to engage in culturally respectful and sustainable tourism, and this is just one of many ways that travelers can engage with Balinese culture.

2025 will mark the fourth year that Ulun Danu Beratan Temple has hosted daily Gebogan Parades during the high season and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The Head of Public Relations for Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, Made Sukarata, told reporters that the Gebogan Parades will be held throughout July and August and that exact dates and parade timings will be shared on the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple social media accounts soon.

Sukarata and his teams are in the final throws of preparations, and there is plenty to organize, at least not dozens of dancers and parade participants to coordinate across the two months that the event will be held.

Sukarata told reporters that the Gebogan Parade will be hosted across both venues with the schedule changing throughout the week. The parade will be hosted at Ulun Danu Beratan Temple on weekdays and at The Blooms Garden at weekends, since both attractions are managed by the same team.

Sukarata explained “We adjust it to the number of visits per day. On weekends, The Blooms Garden is more crowded, so the parade will be held there.”

The management team at Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and The Blooms Garden are anticipating a huge influx of both domestic and international visitors in July and August, with the first surge of tourists arriving in late June.

With visitor numbers set to spike, teams have also arranged for Kecak and Barong cultural performances to be shown throughout the peak season too. Details of the exact timings of these performances will be announced in due course.

Currently, the average number of visitors to The Blooms Garden and Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is 1,700, which increases to 1,800 during busy weekend periods.

Sukarata added, “We have also received bookings from several groups, especially students from East Java. Usually, groups from Jakarta, Jogjakarta, and Central Java will follow when approaching the departure day.”

He noted that most international tourists come from Australia, China, India, and countries across Europe.

Sukarata concluded, “With various cultural performances, we are optimistic that there will be a spike in visits.”

The Blooms Garden and Ulun Danu Beratan Temple are the only places in Bali where tourists can regularly see a Gebogan Parade during this high season, and visiting the Bedugul Highlands is highly recommended.
