Heavy rains that flushed Bali triggered disasters at a number of points, including in Badung.
The water levels in Miah Miah River in Canggu, North Kuta overflowed onto the streets.
As a result, a car and motorcycle belonging to villagers were swept away by the flood.
The car was later found stranded in front of Belulang Yeh Temple, mostly damaged by the raging water.
The vehicle belonged to a local man, Muksin Salim (46), who owns a business located on Jalan Raya Pererenan – Tanah Lot, North Kuta.
Salim’s wife, Ika Indriyanti (45) explained that the incident occured when everyone was asleep at 2:30 am on Thursday (14/1).
“My husband and I were awakened by our staff who said that our walls had collapsed by the water,” she said.
A similar incident happened to their neighbor, who lost a motorcycle the same night.
Ika admitted that she has never experienced something like this before, and she hopes that insurance will cover the loss of their vehicles.
Following the incident, staff from Canggu Village Office tried to clean up the mess by collecting logs and garbage to unclog the river.
The water also destroyed Hindu idols including the Pelinggih Padma Sari and Taman Sari Pesucian in Belulang Yeh Temple located in the middle of the river.
