Gastronomy, Wellness And Maritime Tourism To Be New Pillars Of Bali Travel

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has called on travel agents nationwide, but especially in Bali, to promote three specific areas of travel focus.

Moving forward, tourists can expect to see more promotion of gastronomy, wellness, and maritime tourism experiences in Bali and across the archipelago.

Gede Budiwijaya, the spokesman for the Ministry of Tourism, spoke to tourism leaders at the Alliance of Indonesian Tour & Travel Agencies travel exhibitions in Denpasar. He told the audience, “We encourage our fellow tourism operators to highlight these three special tourism interests in their sales products.”

He added, “We at the Ministry of Tourism want to upgrade our priority programs, such as maritime tourism, where we will focus. We will ensure a complete and superior marine product offering, both underwater and watersports.”

It’s not only about maritime tourism, though, and while there will be crossover between these three areas, each of these priority areas will be promoted individually, too.

Budiwijaya gave more insight into the gastronomy tourism initiatives that tourists can expect in the near future. He revealed, “We have a tour package, a tour package that is about culinary, not just about coming to eat, but also the stories behind it.”

He added, “We hope that these three products can increase the selling power of Indonesian tourism products, so we’re not just selling destinations.”

Budiwijaya shared that different areas of Bali will be able to create and promote tourism and travel experiences based on these three spaces in different ways.

He gave the example of Buleleng Regency in North Bali. He shared his vision for promoting both gastronomy and maritime tourism activities in this area.

Budiwijaya told reporters, “In Buleleng, there’s Lovina with its beaches and gastronomy. If we look at Desa Les with its increasingly popular Bali Mula Kitchen, we’ll try to promote that. Then, we’ll find the right fit for it.”

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has not only identified these three priority tourism themes, but also super-priority destinations.

Indonesia’s super priority destinations include Mandalika in Lombok, Borobudur in Java, Lake Toba in Sumatra, Likupang in North Sulawesi, and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara. Over the coming months, travelers planning trips to Indonesia will see more promotion of gastronomy, wellness, maritime tourism, and these five destinations.

The Ministry of Tourism wants to develop Bali as a launchpad destination, or travel hub for tourists who wish to explore more of what the country has to offer. Wonderful Indonesia, as the national tourism board, is starting to promote more multi-stop itineraries that start and end in Bali, but also stop off in destinations like Java and Lombok.

In August, Wonderful Indonesia launched the ‘Bajo, Bali, Beyond Beautiful’ itinerary, which features incredible maritime and wellness travel experiences in both Bali and Labuan Bajo.

Wonderful Indonesia shared, “From meeting the ancient Komodo dragons to finding serenity in a sacred Melukat Ceremony, every corner whispers stories of nature, culture, and timeless beauty.”

In September, Wonderful Indonesia showcases another new itinerary called “Soulful Escape”. The journey starts in Bali with multiple stops at some of the island’s most impressive cultural immersion spaces, including the Samsara Living Museum, and the island’s best emerging maritime tourism destination, Lovina Beach.

The journey continues to Central Java with a stop at the incredible Borobudur Temple Complex, and for a touch of wellness, the itinerary suggests a visit to Sapu Angin Forest for some forest bathing, followed by a rest and recharge at the Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa.

Domestic flights within Indonesia are increasingly affordable and accessible. For example, flying between Bali and Central Java has never been easier with options to fly into Ahmad Yani International Airport (SRG) in Semarang or Adisumarmo International Airport (SOC) in Solo/Surakarta multiple times a day.

In terms of travel between Bali and Yogyakarta, the situation is just as easy. Indonesia AirAsia, Garuda Indonesia, and Lion Air operate multiple daily flights.
