Bali police are searching for a French tourist in connection with an unwanted hug in public.
Police are looking for 45-year-old, Julien Antonie Gazielly who has been wanted for questioning since February 7th for hugging a woman named Sarah, 38, in a public place.
“He was charged under article 281 (1e) of the Indonesian Criminal Code regarding intentional acts of intentionally damaging decency in public,” said Bali Police Commissioner I Wayan Nuriata.
The victim was dancing when she was approached from behind by Gazielly. He then allegedly wrapped his arms around the woman and started grinding her. The advance was unwanted by the victim and she quickly reported the incident to the Bali Regional Police.
Commissioner Nuriata added that the perpatrator and victim worked together.
Gazielly was employed as a finance manager while the victim worked as a receptionist.
When police went to Jakarta to search for the man at his place of employment, they discovered he was no longer working there.
The Bali Police have asked Interpol for help,” concluded Nuriata.
Under Indonesia’s Criminal Code, public indecency is a crime punishable by up to two years and eight months in prison.
