Thursday 18th September marks day eight post-flood in Bali, and while rains continue to fall over the worst-affected areas of the island, Search and Rescue teams are working to locate four people still reported missing.

While intensive recovery efforts are underway across the island, the full extent of the damage is still being assessed, and as communities, charities, and government agencies work around the clock, more flooding is being reported in tourism resort areas like Kuta, with four people still formally reported as missing.

The current death toll from the recent floods sits around 18, though the figure could be higher, as too could the number of missing people.

Although more rain is forecast in the coming days, and more localized floods have been reported in Kuta on the afternoon of Thursday, 18th September, the Bali Provincial Government officially did not extend the emergency response status for Extreme Weather Disasters on Wednesday, 17th September.

The State of Emergency was brought into effect on Wednesday, 10th September, for seven days, with the possibility of extension.

This was confirmed by the Chief Executive of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bali Province, I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya, on Wednesday evening.

Yadnya shared, “Today, September 17, 2025, is the last day of the determination of the Extreme Weather Disaster Emergency Response status that Mr. Governor established last week. Considering the escalating situation, the escalation of emergency handling is declining, supported by the assessment results of the disaster response team, the Governor of Bali decided that the status of emergency response was declared over and not extended.”

Adding “We are urging the entire community to stay alert as extreme weather remains with the potential to occur again. Keep an eye on the possible dangers in your respective neighborhoods and make efforts to mitigate that risk.”

Initial data from the Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency shows that 6,309 multi-generational families were recorded to have had their homes and businesses destroyed by the floods, which amounts to tens of thousands of people.

This is in addition to 520 ‘units’ of public facilities which have been marked as damaged, 474 of which are located in Denpasar City. The BNPB has also confirmed that three bridges were broken, 23 road points were damaged, 82 guardrails were broken, and 14 dams were also affected.

Intensive community-coordinated recovery efforts are underway with many local charities, local businesses, and the international community working together to deliver aid and recovery support to those in need, especially around Denpasar, Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, and the worst-affected areas in Gianyar Regency, close to Ubud.

There are dozens of different groups working to create an impactful recovery effort, and tourists and travelers who wish to support are advised to check in with their accommodation provider to support efforts in their immediate locale and to look to social media citizen journalism channels where efforts are being coordinated on an hour-by-hour basis by teams in each area.

Prominent relief and clean-up efforts are being coordinated by Drifter Surf, Astungkara Way, Sungai Watch, Roots Neighborhood Kitchen, Sehati Care, Happiness Foundation, and many more. Community-initiated relief efforts come alongside efforts from the regency, provincial, and central government.

Tourists are reminded that the most impactful support looks different in each location, each community, and to each person in need; it is important to honor the needs and wishes of local people during this hugely challenging time.

During his visit to Denpasar on Saturday, 13th September, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto promised vendors, “We will help you out with everything.”

In a statement issued by the President’s Office shortly after his visit, the government shared, “The President’s Office shared. “In the visit, the President expressed his deep sorrow for the calamity experienced by the people, while reviewing directly the handling process that had previously been instructed to the ranks of the Red and White Cabinet.”

Adding “The President also assured that the government will continue to move swiftly to restore the conditions of citizens, repair the damaged infrastructure, and ensure that the basic needs of the affected people are met until the situation is completely recovered.”
