A fire truck belonging to the Klungkung regional government broke down while going to a fire site in Nusa Penida.
The Head of the Klungkung Civil Service Office, Putu Suarta, confirmed that the fire truck called to put out the fire in Batukandik Village, Nusa Penida broke down as it was on its way to the fire site on Wednesday (23/2).
“The axle of the truck broke down on the steep road in Kutampi Village, rendering the fire brigade unable to reach the fire site,” Suarta said.
Consequently, the villagers had to put out the fire with limited equipment during the incident.
“The fire brigade of Nusa Penida was unable to send a backup as it was the only fire truck that the island had. So people had to gather and help each other to extinguish the fire, though they had very limited resources and equipment,” Suarta added.
Suarta admitted that the vehicle had not passed the last inspection as it was already corroded. “The truck had too much exposure to the sunlight and rain as it was always parked in an open area, and the wind around the area carries particles from saltwater, which makes its condition even worse,” Suarta concluded.
However, he states that he had been requesting a new fire truck from the government since 2020. Still, the officials decided to postpone the procurement as the budget has been re-allocated to focusing on handling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Poor villagers.
Where are the rich frustrated travelers who claim to have an opulent travel lifestyle? It's time to donate a fire engine truck rather than complaining about a USD 313 bucks for a visa. It's time to rub shoulders with the Balinese locals...right.
