Tourists traveling to Bali in the coming months are being warned to prepare for extreme heat. While tourists travel from around the world to enjoy the Bali sunshine, this season could bring heatwaves and even more extreme flooding.

The Bali Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency has issued an urgent warning to tourists and the wider public to limit time spent outside during the forecasted periods of extreme heat. Temperatures across Indonesia are rising, with provinces such as Bali, East Java, South Sumatra, Semarang, and Jakarta anticipated to experience the brunt of the heat moving forward.
In Jakarta, residents have been experiencing temperatures 3 degrees above average for this time of year, with highs of 35 degrees Celsius feeling even more intense due to poor air quality. The Deputy of the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, Guswanto, told reporters that the public should prepare for extreme heat until early 2026. He noted, “We urged the public to minimize heavy physical activities outdoors, particularly the elderly and children.”
Guswanto explained that the rising temperatures have been triggered by intensified solar radiation spanning over the southern half of the archipelago, especially in Sumatra, and extending to Java and Bali. For tourists traveling to Bali to enjoy vacations in the sunshine, warnings to limit time outdoors are not welcome news.
The situation gets more complicated when taking into consideration that the rainy season has arrived in Bali Province. Not only are temperatures rising and set to rise further, but monsoon rains are expected to intensify as the season progresses. Though it is only the start of November, the peak of the rains usually falls during late December and early January.
Following the devastating floods in September 2025, the Mayor of Denpasar, I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara, told reporters that flood response efforts would be in place for three months, and called on all government agencies and communities to prepare for the incoming monsoon season as best as possible by mitigating environmental risks where possible. The Mayor stated, “Based on consideration from the Governor, the BMKG, and the BPBD, the status of Disaster Emergency Response has been changed to Emergency Transition Status to Recovery for three months.”
He added, “Even though the status has changed, services to affected residents will continue until completion, so that improvements in vital sectors, infrastructure, schools, and the community’s socio-economic recovery can be achieved.”
Governor Koster has ordered government agencies to work around the clock to prepare the island for the monsoon season, with an intensive focus on preparing the island’s waterways and rivers, including the Ayung, Badung, Mati, and Unda.
The risk of tidal flooding, extreme waves, and weather is always heightened during the full moon, and the full supermoon on 5th November is no exception.

Updates forecasts published by the Bali Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency show that heavy rains are forecast for Tuesday afternoon and night.
The rains will be traveling south, with heavy rain forecast in Ubud, Bedugul, Kintamani, and Beskaih on Tuesday afternoon, moving towards Nusa Dua, Kuta, Tanah Lot, and Sanur later in the evening.
Updates to forecasts for mid-week will be published by the Bali Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency in due course.

Tourists traveling to Bali in the coming months are advised to follow the Bali Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency’s Instagram account.
While most of the content is uploaded in Bahasa Indonesia, regular forecasts are published in English as well as extreme weather warnings when issued too.

It is essential that tourists take out fully comprehensive travel and health insurance before traveling to Bali. Tourists must check their policy in detail to understand what is and is not covered in the event of an emergency; when traveling to Bali or Indonesia more broadly, comprehensive cover for natural disasters and extreme weather is essential.
