Bali’s Uluwatu Is A Beach Lover’s Playground Paradise

Share The Article

Uluwatu is Bali’s most up-and-coming tourist destination. Boasting stunning clifftop vistas and home to some of the most extravagant and luxurious beach clubs on the island, Uluwatu is nothing shy of paradise.

Located on the Bukit Peninsula, Uluwatu’s coves and rocky bays give tourists plenty to explore. For the longest time, Uluwatu was a destination visited only by surfers.

The world-famous break-off Uluwatu was first put on the map by an intrepid team of Australian surfers back in the 1970s.

Since then, the area has slowly and steadily become a leading tourism destination in its own right. The area is undergoing a huge development boom, and with so much on offer for tourists, it’s not hard to see why investors are running at the chance of creating new businesses in the area.

@vdecidedtotravel There was not a place in Uluwatu we didn’t love. This southern part of Bali is full of surfer babes and beach bums. The biggest appeal of Uluwatu has to be the beaches. Whether you want to surf, sunbathe, explore, or take those all-important Instagram and TikTok videos, there is a beach for every occasion in Uluwatu.

It is hard to pick just one best beach for sunbathing and relaxing in Uluwatu. For the ultimate lazy beach day in Uluwatu, it has to be Sundays Beach Club. With private access to Pantai Selatan Gau, a day of sunbathing and chilling on the beach doesn’t get better than Sundays.

Many of the beaches along the southern tip of the Bukit Peninsula are not safe for swimming. But at Sunday Beach Club, not only are the calm waters safe for swimming, but there are at least two lifeguards on duty through the day and night, keeping a close eye on everyone.

Padang Padang Beach is perfect for a day of sunbathing and swimming in Uluwatu. This beach gets pretty packed in high season, so be sure to arrive early to secure your spot in the sand. It’s also a great place to learn to surf.

There are locally owned surf shacks and cool drinks stands dotted across the beach. Surf lessons are available at a moment’s notice, or you can simply hire a board by the hour and paddle out to the gentle waves.

Perfect sunset beach? Look no further than Balangan Beach. This gem of a beach in Uluwatu is still pretty quiet. The views from Balangan Beach up the coastline and out onto the ocean are second to none.

The sunsets are a chilled-out affair; you can grab a couple of cold beers from the surf shacks and coast up on a bean bag or sun lounger to enjoy the show.

Easy, the best beach for exploring and content creation is Nunggalan Beach. The stairs up and down to the beach are a proper workout and not for the faint-hearted.

This beach is home to the famous Uluwatu shipwreck, which makes for great photos.

The beach is often deserted, which gives you the unique and incredibly rare opportunity to have a Bali beach all to yourself.

A real hidden gem of a Uluwatu beach is Green Bowl Beach. The steep walk down to the sand is worth the sweat and trembling knees.

This is a favorite spot for experienced surfers and is perfect if you love a beach with a bit of character. There are two caves to explore at Green Bowl Beach, but be careful to keep an eye on the quickly changing tide.

"The world-famous break-off Uluwatu was first put on the map by an intrepid team of Australian surfers back in the 1070s." Huh...1970's. There was a typo error there. Wish the Aussies kept it under wrap. Now the cat is out of the bag. Sigh.

Anyway, Jalan Uluwatu toward the bukit is already congested and getting worse. But as you go further to the coastline, it's calmer and less congested. There are several access roads reaching all the nicer beaches and villas. Something that Seminyak, Kuta, and Canggu do not have the luxury to be reachable in a timely manner. Sadly, gentrification (I would reiterate that the local villages are slowly disappearing) is starting to dominate the landscape of Ungasan and Uluwatu. Sigh.

Good to know. Do not worry of fresh water supply for all these new developments or building on eroding cliff edges. Press on.

What about real estate as an investment. Is it good or a dream come true in the next couple of years?

@gm, it's a perfect area but as I wrote earlier, gentrification is sadly dominating the landscape. The intact Balinese villages will soon be gone.
