Bali’s Benoa Harbor is being transformed into a luxury marina as the resort area embarks on a new journey as a luxury tourism destination.
Benoa is one of Bali’s most loved and affordable resort destinations. The new luxury marina, built as part of the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub, will greatly improve travel infrastructure in South Bali.
The last major updates about the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub were shared publicly in mid-2022, but work has been ticking along consistently over the last three years.
The new marina area is entering its final stages of construction and will be in operation in 2025, according to project leaders.
The development has been spearheaded by Pelindo, officially known as PT Pelindo Solusi Logistik (SPSL), which operates in the logistics and regional development sector and is developing the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub in several stages.
The marina will feature 180 berths and will be able to accommodate over 50 super yachts of up to 90m in length. The luxury watch marina is anticipated to accept its first super yachts in the second half of 2025.
While the marina area is being developed and constructed by Pelindo, the on-water service facilities and land entertainment facilities, such as yacht clubs, restaurants, and international standard yacht service stations, will be managed by PT Marina Development Indonesia.
The final company involved in the project development is PT Kharisma Anugrah Jawara Abadi (KAJA), which is working with Marina Development Indonesia to ensure the creation of the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is smooth sailing.
The Director of KAJA, Ronald Widjadi, told reporters, “This is expected to be a maritime tourism hub in Indonesia and provide a multiplier effect on changes in the butterfly route cruise concept in Indonesia such as Tanjung Emas Port, Tanjung Perak, Gilimas, Labuan Bajo, Raja Ampat and others.”
In a shared interview, the President Director of MDI, Ulf Backlund, explained, “Bali deserves this Marina.” He noted that the new development at Benoa gives Indonesia the chance to be a global player in the luxury travel world.
Bali is already home to a booming luxury and exclusive travel market. The addition of the super yacht marina at the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub will help make it easier for high-end travelers to coordinate their visits to Indonesia.
To help promote Benoa’s new chapter to the world, the resort just hosted an event called ‘Sail to Indonesia Goes to Bali Maritime Tourism Hub, at which Indonesian Ministers shared their visions and support for the redevelopment.
The Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Karya Sumadi, told reporters, “The implementation of Sail to Indonesia Goes to BMTH reflects Pelindo’s commitment to improving Indonesia’s maritime capabilities as a key global maritime hub.”
“This event also has a dual purpose, namely to promote Bali’s appeal as a global tourist destination and make it a center for maritime activities.”
Minister for Tourism and Creative Economies Sandiaga Uno explained, “Bali will have an important opportunity to promote marine tourism destinations in Indonesia, encourage foreign and domestic tourists to visit, and promote Bali tourism through social media and other media channels.”
Luxury and high-end travel are the goals of many political and industry leaders in Bali. Just last week, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Nusantara Awakening Party (PKN) and former member of the Bali House of Representatives, Gede Pasek Suardika, outlined his vision to make Nusa Penida the Monaco of Indonesia.
Suardika explained, “In my image, the Nusa Penida area should be above Nusa Dua. Because there is no location in Bali that can be raised to the level to attract wealthy tourists to vacation peacefully and comfortably.”
He added, “Nusa Penida with Nusa Lembongan must be upgraded to be top-class in the world. Build infrastructure to reach that level, as well as prepare the local community to enter that level. So that immediate welfare will increase rapidly.”
