Bali’s New Turyapada Tower Attraction Prepares To Welcome First Tourists

Bali is about to see the opening of a new tourist attraction in Buleleng Regency.

The Kerthi Bali Turyapada Communications Tower is 98% complete.

While it is first and foremost a transmission tower, leaders hope that the new landmark will become a tourism destination in its own right. 

The Turyapada Tower, which cost IDR 418 billion to build, stands at a staggering 115m tall.

The tower will be used as a transmitter for digital television broadcasts, telecommunications, internet, and radio communications.

The tower will combat connectivity black zones across Karangasem Regency, Buleleng Regency and Jembrana Regency.

Tourism leaders in Bali are hopeful that the tower will become as popular of a tourist attraction as the Effiel Tower and the Tokyo Tower.

The site will feature a planetarium, a skywalk, a 360* rotating restaurant, and a glass bridge. According to the team behind the tourism development aspect of the Turyapada Tower project, the site has also been designed to be environmentally friendly because it contains flower and fruit gardens, children’s play areas, glamping, flying foxes, micro, small, and medium business outlets, and restaurants.

Leaders anticipate the Turyapada Tower becoming extremely popular with tourists quickly, so they have facilitated a one-hectare parking lot and a gondola that provides a complimentary shuttle service along the 1.4km route from the parking area to the tower itself.

Looking back at statements issued by the Ex-Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, in 2022, when construction really got underway on the project, this was one of his election promises that has been brought to fruition.

Koster told the media, “The construction of this tower is the fulfillment of my political promise during the 2018 election. I promised to build an ordinary tower that would cover the reach of television broadcasts in Buleleng.”

“Without the help of satellite dishes, the people of Buleleng cannot enjoy television broadcasts. Now, what is being built is not an ordinary tower. However, the tower can also be used as a tourist destination. It even reaches Karangasem and Jembrana.”

The Turyapada Tower will be equipped with supporting facilities such as convention tours, educational laboratories, and a museum of culture that will display technology created and adopted in each era of civilization on the island. 

Koster also confirmed that the Turyapada Tower would be specially designed, with the highest earthquake resistance coefficient of 1.0 G, the life expectancy of the building structure is at least 500 years, and has been built with a double structural system so that it is resistant to wind and earthquake loads.

Koster told reporters, “This tower was initiated by a team from the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. Meanwhile, the construction was carried out by PT Hutama Karya KSO PT Yodya Karya, tender participants from BUMN who already had experience and passed a strict selection.”

He added “I am sure that restaurants will move here. Including hotels, villas and restaurants. Hotel and restaurant taxes will go to the district. The province will form a unit to manage this tower, so that it can be managed professionally and become a new source of PAD [tax revenue].”

Speaking to reporters, the Head of the Bali Province Communications, Information, Statistics (Diskominfos) Department, Gede Pramana, said that construction of the tower is nearly completed and that tests and trials are already being carried out across the site.

“Now 98 percent [is complete] only glass bridges are left because it requires true precision with Balinese ornaments. That’s what we’re still working on hard; yes, hopefully, the weather won’t interfere.”

It is anticipated that the site will open to tourists on the 4th of July. Pramana said that from a transmission perspective, everything with the tower is working according to plan, too.

He explained, “Actually, now, after the trial, it’s running. Only now do television friends just need to enter Turyapada. “Everyone uses technology now, of course, the government will prepare special funds [for further developments] because if we don’t implement it, we will be left behind.”
