Bali’s Leaders Say The Sanur Resort Is Nearly Ready To Welcome Tourists

Sanur, one of Bali’s most popular beach resorts, has undergone a massive transformation.

A huge proportion of the Sanur area has been transformed into the Sanur Special Economic Zone; much like Nusa Dua, the resort will focus on special interest tourism.

The special interest tourism at Sanur will focus on medical tourism. Moving forward, the resort will be referred to as The Sanur, much like The Nusa Dua.

There will be the broader Sanur resort that already exists around Sanur Beach, and the special economic zone will be managed as The Sanur.

The Sanur is now home to a magnificent new international hospital, a commercial business center that focuses on medium, small, and micro-enterprises from within Bali, and two newly renovated hotels.

According to local leaders, The Sanur is 99% completed; essentials like landscaping gardens, finishing utility areas, installing security gates, and completing roads have all been ticked off the project to-do list.

The Sanur features two newly renovated hotels. Both of these are five-star accommodation facilities, which will now be known by new names: Bali Beach Hotel and The Meru Sanur.

These two hotels give a new breath to Grand Inna Bali Beach Resort, which was founded in 1962.

This iconic building is the tallest building in Bali and was one of the first big hotels on the island; it was the first ‘star’ hotel in the province at the inception of international mass tourism in the region.

Both The Meru and Bali Beach Hotels have been renovated in alignment with traditional Balinese architectural and design values.

Both the hotels and The Sanur, more broadly, have a strong focus on uplifting Balinese heritage as well as being a new special economic zone for development.

The Meru, which is 90% complete and ready to receive guests, will offer 184 rooms across two integrated buildings.

Speaking to reporters, the Acting VP Corporate Secretary Hotel Indonesia Natour, Adianta Apriadi, said, “We are committed to maintaining historical values and promoting local Balinese wisdom in the development of The Sanur.

Various historical relics at The Sanur are witnesses and icons of cultural heritage that tell the story of the development of Bali tourism since this hotel was built.”

He continued, “This hotel is an embodiment of modernization, which at that time was a beacon for the revival of Bali tourism.”

“We are optimistic that this historical and unique value will also become an attraction and provide a unique experience for visitors who come to the area, both domestic and international tourists.”

Speaking about The Sanur as a special economic zone, Apriadi said, “We are optimistic that The Sanur can become a magnet for domestic and foreign tourists in strengthening the potential for health tourism in Indonesia.”

The Sanur Special Economic Zone is anticipated to accelerate Indonesia’s economic recovery through tourism and health.

Over the next few months, each of the facilities and venues within The Sanur will be formally inaugurated, meaning there will be lots of celebrations happening.

Representatives from the Indonesian government have already officially inaugurated one of the facilities at The Sanur, namely the Bali Beach Convention Centre, on the 30th of January 2024.

The Bali Beach Convention Centre can accommodate over 5,000 people and is set to become one of the leading destinations for MICE tourism in Indonesia. MICE tourism stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions.

Aside from the hotels, the convention center, and the new international hospital, The Sanur is also home to a new ethnomedicinal botanic garden.

The Sanur says that the ethnobotanical garden is home to “1,460 curated plants, trees, and fruits representing diverse cultures, regions, and traditions residing within. We provide them a home, ensuring their healing potential remains readily accessible to our medical experts.”

Is the BIH public or private hospital and will it accept BPJS patients? My wife is very ill with an undiagnosed illness that has been challenging here in Jogya. We pray for better care at BIH if affordable or under BPJS. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
