Bali has been named as the second most in-demand destination in the world by TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice Awards 2025. It is also, therefore, the number one destination in Asia in 2025.
The annual awards see TripAdvisor rank the most popular destinations, hotels, beaches, and attractions in the world, based on real travel reviews and trends.
In 2025, Bali was named in second place for the second year running. TripAdvisor explains, “The Travellers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best title celebrates the highest level of excellence in travel.”
“It’s awarded to those who receive a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period. Out of our 8 million listings, fewer than 1% achieve this milestone.”
The top ten best destinations for travel in 2025, as named by the Travellers’ Choice Award, are, in first place, London, followed by Bali, and Dubai came out third. Sciliy has been ranked fourth, followed by Paris, Rome, and Hanoi; Marrakesh was placed eighth, and Crete in ninth, with Bangkok completing the top ten.
TripAdvisor says of Bali that it is “a living postcard, an Indonesian paradise that feels like a fantasy. Soak up the sun on a stretch of fine white sand, or commune with the tropical creatures as you dive along coral ridges or the colorful wreck of a WWII warship.”
“On shore, the lush jungle shelters stone temples and mischievous monkeys. The “artistic capital” of Ubud is the perfect place to see a cultural dance performance, take a batik or silver-smithing workshop, or invigorate your mind and body in a yoga class.”
As always, the Traveler’s Choice Awards are announced bit by bit throughout the year. Traveler’s Choice Awards for attractions, activities, and specific landmark destinations like beaches and hotels are yet to be revealed for 2025.
In the meantime, there are plenty of award-winning attractions from 2024 that are still worthy of visiting, including the world-famous Kelingking Beach in Nusa Penida, Tanah Lot Temple, the UNESCO Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, and the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud.
While TripAdvisor is calling Bali the number one travel destination in Asia in 2025, TimeOut Magazine just named the Indonesian island of Sumba as the best destination in Asia in 2025. TimeOut shared, “Known for its idyllic beaches like Nihiwatu (once voted the world’s best beach) and dramatic landscapes of rolling savannahs, this remote island is perfect for travelers seeking adventure and tranquillity.”
Sumba makes for the perfect add-on destination to a Bali vacation in 2025. There are few countries in the world where tourists can visit so many award-winning destinations and attractions with such ease and affordability.
There are twice-daily flights between I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali and Sumba’s Tambolaka Airport (TMC), with Wings Air and Nam Air.
These wins for Bali and Indonesia more broadly come as welcome news after Bali was named on the Fodor ‘No List’ for 2025 late last year.
The travel magazine cited the negative impacts of mass and over-tourism as a reason not to visit the province this year.
Leaders in Bali have been clear that they do not feel that Bali is experiencing overtourism but rather an overconcentration of tourism in the resorts of the central south of the island.
This is why in 2025 and beyond, tourism leaders and the provincial government will be promoting lesser-visited destinations across the region.
Areas like West Bali, North Bali, and East Bali will become increasingly familiar to international tourists as more promotional offers and increased accessibility will be made available to help tourists discover these incredible regions of the province.
Top destinations in North Bali, for example, include the breathtaking waterfalls and jungles of Munduk and the dreamy shores of Lovina Beach, where it is possible to watch dolphins jumping across the ocean at sunrise.
