The Bali Tourism Alliance has urged the government to provide a new stimulus program for tourism workers that have been out of the job due to the pandemic.
The Head of Bali Marginal Tourism Workers Alliance, Wayan Puspa Negara stated that marginal tourism workers such as freelance drivers and other daily workers are in desperate need for financial support from the government.
The new additional restrictions on the upcoming year-end holiday season will further hurt an already devastated tourism industry.
The government announced that a partial lockdown level 3 will be implemented during the holiday season in anticipation of a spike in Covid-19 transmission.
“We totally understand our government’s concern about the potential surge of Covid-19 transmission, but please consider to provide any stimulus or capital worker programs to our tourism workers as well.” Puspa Negara said on Monday (29/11).
Negara also criticized the government’s entry requirement policies such as the visa on arrival ban for international visitors and 7 day quarantine that is preventing almost all visitors from coming.
“If they wanted to implement quarantine policy, I suggest they use Bali as a ‘quarantine island’ through quarantine paradise program.” Negara added.
Puspa Negara predicted that the number of domestic tourists on the upcoming holiday season might be lower than expected due to the 10:00 pm curfew that will be also implemented until the beginning of January 2022.

I hope they provide some financial assistance as its desperately needed. Maybe a goverment scheme where they employ unemployed tourist workers in a clean up bali scheme. Cleaning the streets, rivers, beaches in a much needed clean up of the island. This would kill 2 birds with one stone in providing an income where its really needed and a much needed clean up which would benefit the tourism and image of the island for years to come.

@Maureen Muntz, the true meaning of visas is to show to visitors that they are more or less undesirable.
