A storage warehouse housing valuables in Busingbiu Village, Buleleng has been burned down after someone allegedly burned rubbish next to the building. The fire destroyed the entire building along with vehicles and other property.
The Head of Busungbiu Police Department, AKP Gede Budiarta said that the incident occurred on Friday afternoon (12/3) at around 5:30 pm when the fire from the burning rubbish spread to the building that was owned by a 36-year-old local named Kadek Yuli Artana.
Witnesses said that the fire spread to the building rapidly, so the nearby villagers were not able to extinguish the fire.
Some people took gas cans from the building and put them aside in order to prevent explosions. “Some valuable items such as a minibus, one pick up truck, three motorbikes, two loan mowers, two chainsaws, and three power generators were completely burned down from the incident,” said AKP Budiarta.
The owner estimated a loss of USD 28,000 (IDR 400 million) from the incident. It required two fire trucks from Seririt Fire Department to extinguish the fire.
“Artana and several other people were cleaning up the warehouse that afternoon, and they decided to burn some unused stuff near the warehouse. And after that, Artana decided to leave the warehouse, but Artana was surprised when the neighbors Gede Tamayasa and Putu Sri Yuli called Artana at 6:00 pm saying that the warehouse was on fire” AKP Budiarta added.
Budiarta suspected that the incident was caused by the negligence of people burning rubbish near the warehouse.
