Bali International Airshow Set To Be A Hit With Tourists

With just seven days to go until the Bali International Air Show kicks off on the Island of the Gods, aero-enthusiasts are preparing for what is set to be an aviation extravaganza.

The Bali International Airshow will be hosted at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport from 18th – 21st September 2024.

The Bali International Airshow is described as “Southeast Asia’s premier exposition for aerospace, aero technology, and defense, dedicated to propelling Indonesia to the forefront of the regional aerospace industry.”

The event will welcome over 100 aviation companies and over 100 delegations from 35 countries around the world.

The event will also include a static aircraft display covering over 78,000 sq m out on the south apron airfield and within the exhibition hall.

The event is hosted by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, the Ministry of Transportation, the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU), and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, AirNav Indonesia, and Angkasa Pura Airports.

Together in partnership, these agencies have bought back the Bali International Airshow in 2024, which serves to highlight Indonesia’s long-standing dedication to aerospace excellence.

At first glance, the Bali International Airshow may appear to be an industry event, and while there is plenty of programming dedicated to the aviation sector, there is a wealth of programming that will appeal to the public, too.

The industry event is focused on the 18th – 20th of September, with the public day opening on the 21st of September.

The event will be returning to Bali after a 20-year hiatus, and leaders in Bali are hopeful that the event will welcome thousands of attendees every day.

Speaking earlier this month, the Minister for Tourism and Creative Economies, Sandiaga Uno, told reporters, “There will be one day when the public can reach 3,000 visits. This is an attraction that we need to prepare.”

He added, “The participant profiles include aerospace industry activists starting from manufacturers and those who will come such as Boeing and Airbus. They are business people and aerospace experts. And this is also an opportunity for PT. Dirgantara Indonesia will promote and sell more products made by the nation’s children.”

The President Director of PT Inaro Tujuh Belas, the event organizers, Andy Wismarsyah, told the press, “This event is not only designed to inspire and entertain visitors with a passion for aviation but also serves as a chance to showcase the latest technological advancements that could help contribute significantly to Indonesia’s efforts to elevate our aviation sector.”

Air displays are set to the show-stopping events of the day; however, with Bali Airport located close to so many of the island’s leading tourism resorts, even those not in attendance will be able to get a glimpse of the action.

Air displays are expected to be visible from the resort of Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, with glimpses of the show visible from Kuta and Sanur.

Huge amounts of preparation have gone into the event, at least not into security. Speaking to reporters during a preparation site visit on the 3rd of September, the Indonesian Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan praised the collaborative efforts between the Bali Governor’s Office, Regional Government, Indonesian Air Force, Indonesian Army, police, and immigration.

He spoke specifically of the huge security operation that will be underway before, during, and after the event.

Minister Pandjaitan shared, “We see a lot of security is done by the pecalang so that Balinese culture is visible. Then, earlier, there was also an airshow with the F-35, which was also interesting. I think people see this as unique.”

Tourists arriving and departing from Bali Airport between the 15th and 22nd of September can expect to see more police presence in the airport and surrounding areas.

Traffic management systems will be in place, though during the event, tourists are advised to leave extra time to travel to the airport.

Public tickets for the 21st of September can be purchased online for IDR 165,000, and a public round-trip shuttle bus ticket is an additional IDR 111,000.

The airport cannot even handle the number of commercial planes coming and going in Bali and now let alone an air show that will disrupt commercial airlines schedules. Sigh...

@Randy,

There's ample apron space away from that needed for normal commercial flights.

I'm confident that the organizers and Ngurah Rai management will slot those exhibits flying in so they don't conflict with them.
