Bali Governor I Wayan Koster confirmed that the daily new cases of Covid-19 from the Omicron variant had surpassed the number of Delta cases in 2021. According to the data, Covid transmission has been surging since January. The peak of its transmission was on Saturday (5/2), when Bali recorded a total of 2,038 new cases.

But despite this surge in Covid transmission, Koster reminds his residents to keep calm while staying cautious.

“Residents should stay calm yet vigilant, as the daily cases of the Omicron variant have surpassed the numbers from the second wave last year,” Koster said on Monday (7/2).

Bali recorded 1,918 new cases on Sunday (6/2), with 196 recoveries and seven deaths. Meanwhile, there were 9,887 active cases, with most patients undergoing self-isolation at home.

“Our recovery rate is still below the number of daily new cases, which may burden our hospitals and quarantine facilities,” Koster added.

However, he stated that the situation is being properly handled as the government is prepared with the necessary supplies and equipment, including oxygen tanks, medicine, medical workers, hospital beds, and quarantine facilities across the island.
