The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry announced that Bali will see five new toll road sections after Pulau Dewata (the Island of Gods) last saw the Bali Mandara toll introduced several years ago.

PUPR Minister, Basuki Hadimuljono said that the Bali Province government initially proposed 16 new tolls for the island. “The Bali provincial government asked for 16 tolls but then we agreed for five tolls after evaluating the spatial planning,” he said on Thursday, January 23.

The new toll road sections will connect; Gilimanuk—Denpasar, Gilimanuk—Tabanan, Tabanan—Kuta, Kuta—Padang Bai, and Kuta—Tanah Lot. They are all entering the spatial adjustment phase.

Minister Basuki added that they received a suggestion for a business entity as the initiator to execute the Gilimanuk—Denpasar toll construction. However, no decisions have been made over which entity will be appointed.

Previously reported, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster had welcomed a private investor to conduct a presentation on the Gilimanuk—Denpasar toll’s feasibility through a pre-feasibility study.

Bali regional government has committed to continue coordinating with the PUPR Ministry to realize the construction of the new toll roads that will cost more than Rp10 trillion.

Meanwhile, for the connection of Gilimanuk-Denpasar toll with the Trans-Java toll, Minister Basuki confirmed that the plan has yet to be established.
