Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport keeps getting busier. As the only commercial airport in the province, Ngurah Rai International is the main gateway to the Island of the Gods.
As Bali prepares to observe both Nyepi and Eid, Bali Airport is bracing for a massive influx of domestic and international travelers.

The latest travel figures from January 2025 to February 2025 show that Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is on track to see its busiest year on record.
Bali has set targets to welcome at least 6.5 million international tourists in 2025, and the airport served 3,643,836 passengers in the first two months of the year alone.
A breakdown of the figures reveals that 2,250,983 people were international passengers, while 1,392,843 people were domestic route passengers. Bali Airport recorded 22,540 flights during the first two months of the year, with 12,442 international flights and 10,098 domestic flights.
Speaking to reporters the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, revealed that compared to the same period in 2024, there has been an 11% growth in international passenger traffic, as well as a 7% increase in aircraft movements.
However, there has been a stark decrease in domestic passenger movement, with Bali Airport seeing 9% less domestic travel than in the same period in 2024. However, with the Eid al-Fitr holiday at the end of the month, known in Indonesia as Lebaran, all that could be about to change in the big picture.
Shahab told reporters “We have predicted this decline because the traffic in February tends to decline or enter the low season period.” The busiest domestic flight routes in and out of Bali are Jakarta, followed by Surabaya and Makassar.
In terms of flight data and looking at international flight routes, Singapore remains the most common international destination seeing 384,654 passengers and 2,112 aircraft movements to and from Denpasar.
Singapore is followed by Kuala Lumpur in second place with 262,062 passengers and 1,719 aircraft movements. Melbourne is in third place in terms of number of passengers with 178,170 people. However, Australian tourists remain the most frequent international arrivals in Bali overall.

Shahab was also able to give reporters updates about the total number of tourists who visited Bali in January and February. He shared “Based on data from the Class I Special Immigration Office of TPI Ngurah Rai, WNA holding Australian passports still dominate, with a total of 238,080 people or around 23 percent of the total WNA.”
“In second place are tourists from the People’s Republic of China with a total of 103,528 people, followed by India with 75,936 people.”

In total Bali welcomed 1,013,700 people from 1st January 2025 to 28th February 2025, with travellers originating from 198 countries.
Shahab concluded “Our target in 2025 is to serve 26.4 million passengers. Currently, we are preparing additional flights for several domestic and international routes. We are confident that with the addition of new routes, this will be a stimulus for the growth of the number of passengers and support tourism and the economy of Bali.”
As Bali prepares for the Nyepi and Eid festivals at the end of the month, tourists traveling both domestically and internationally must be aware that there are changes to the normal transportation operating schedules in Bali. Nyepi Day, also known as Bali’s holy day of silence, will be observed on Saturday 29th March.

On Nyepi Day all transportation and movement on the island will be restricted and the airport will be closed for 24 hours. Tourists are advised to arrive at the accommodation where they will be spending Nyepi Day by midday on the 28th of March at the latest as almost all businesses on the island, including taxi drivers, operate a half day of work the day before Nyepi.
Road closures will come into effect from as early as 3 pm in communities across Bali as preparations are made for the Ogoh-Ogoh parades.
