With the Balinese Hindu festival of Nypei falling on the same weekend as the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr, accommodation across the island is getting booked up quickly.

Generally speaking, most tourists and holidaymakers heading to Bali book their accommodation long in advance.

However, there is a small but significant minority of tourists who book their accommodation as they are on the move, and there are many others who are always on the lookout for an opportunistic last-minute accommodation deal.

In March 2025 for those travelers who want to guarantee they will have a top-notch place to stay anywhere in Bali’s most popular resort areas, it is highly advisable to book hotels, villas, B&Bs, guesthouses, and hostels now.

With Nypei and Eid al-Fitr falling on the same weekend in 2025, tens of millions of people in Indonesia will be on the move around the country to celebrate the holidays with their loved ones.

Bali, as the country’s flagship tourism destination, is just as popular with domestic tourists as it is with international tourists and the island is preparing to welcome tens of thousands of extra visitors between 28th March and 6th April 2025.

Speaking to reporters this week the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Bali I Gusti Agung Ngurah Rai Suryawijaya, revealed the latest figures for hotel bookings in the province.

He shared that it is predicted that over 20,000 domestic tourists will visit Bali per day during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, known in Indonesia as Lebaran.

He explained to reporters “Usually when the holidays start, whether school holidays, Eid al-Fitr, or other holidays, it will definitely increase.”

“Our prediction for tourist arrivals could increase by 10 percent, for example, currently domestic is between 14 thousand per day and will reach 20 thousand per day during the holidays.”

The average length of stay is five stays, with the majority of domestic tourists traveling from Jakarta, Semarang, and Jogjakarta, to ever-popular Bali resorts like Kuta, Legian, Jimbaran, and Canggu.

Suryawijaya suggested that hotel occupancy rates will increase by at least 10% on average over the festival period. With this in mind, it would be wise for tourists to make bookings as soon as possible to secure both the hotel itself and their preferred room.

Speaking separately the Head of the Bali Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, revealed that by the Tourism Office’s estimations, hotel occupancy could increase by as much as 20% with some hotels, resorts, and villa complexes becoming fully booked. Pemayun told reporters “Maybe it’ll be bigger than before, 10-20% [increase] from the previous Eid.”

He added, “Starting from D-7 [one week before Eid] they will have started to come to Bali, and hotel occupancy will be at 60-70%.”

Pemayun concluded with a note that the increasing cost of flight tickets is proving to be a barrier for many domestic tourists who have a desire to travel to Bali for the holidays.

He shared “It is true that one of [the issues] is about the price of plane tickets, the price is still not in accordance with our expectations, secondly because of the extreme weather factors of late.”

During the Eid al-Fitr holiday in 2024, a total of 1,059,069 passengers passed through Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, between both the international and domestic terminals.

This was a major increase from 2023 when 998,000 travellers were recorded during the same period. 2025 is expected to be the best year on record for Bali once again, with the province targeting to welcome at least 6.5 million international tourists, in addition to millions of domestic arrivals too.
