The Head of the Bali Tourism Board, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, has been talking to reporters about the destination’s recognition as a world-leading vacation hotspot.
As the island seeks to welcome over 6.5 million tourists in 2025, Pemayun wants to see culture, nature, and personal connections be a real focal point.

Bali has been featured heavily in the top-ranking travel categories for 2025 in the TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Awards.
Bali was named as the number one culture destination in the world for 2025, and second in the honeymoon category, with Mauritius coming out on top. Bali was also named number five in the list of top destinations across TripAdvisor’s 25 years of service.
Pemayun told reporters, “We are grateful and proud because Bali is still the second favorite place as the best honeymoon destination.” He noted that the versatility of destinations and travel opportunities offered by Bali is what helps set the island apart. Pemayun added “For example, if you want to enjoy a cold area, of course, there are Kintamani and Bedugul. Or like Chinese tourists who are happy with the beach to find tranquility, it can be in the Nusa Dua, Sanur, or Kuta area.”
Looking to the future, Pemayun wants to see this diversity and versatility harnessed even more. He noted, “Bali’s strength comes from nature, humans, and culture. These three things have become an extraordinary unity and have differentiated Bali from other regions.”
Bali’s top nature and cultural attractions all offer incredible opportunities for a personal connection. Bali has long been one of the world’s most culturally generous travel destinations and tourists are warmly welcomed as guests and are invited to engage with the deeply reverent culture in meaningful ways.
There are very few other cultures in the world where tourists can take part in spiritual ceremonies and observe so many different aspects of the culture with such ease.
One of the top cultural experiences for tourists in Bali is also deeply connected to nature and is inherently a deeply moving and personal experience that helps visitors gain a deeper understanding of themselves and Balinese culture too. The traditional water cleansing ceremony, known as a Melukat ceremony, has been noted by many tourists as a life-changing experience.
Tourists can take part in a water blessing ceremony at Tirta Empul Temple, located close to Ubud. However, tourists are also urged to respect the tradition and the ceremony itself. There have been concerns that tourists have been failing to understand the sanctity of the ritual.

Personal connections, cultural immersion, and connections with nature can also be discovered through Bali’s food culture.
Booking a cooking class is a fantastic way for tourists to connect to the land, learn from local communities, and take home some new recipes too.
Many cooking classes in Bali start with a tour of a market garden or food forest, where attendees get the chance to gather many of the ingredients that they will be cooking with.

Others start with a market tour, where attendees get a chance to connect with local producers and vendors and experience the hustle and bustle of a traditional Balinese marketplace.
These cooking classes are always jam-packed and filled with learning, attended generally make 5-6 different dishes and share a communal feast at the end of the day.

Of course, a cultural highlight of any trip to Bali is to attend a live performance of the Kecak Dance. The most famous performance is held every evening at Uluwatu Temple and is set within the oceanfront amphitheater.
The dance tells the story of the triumph of good over evil, a theme that can be seen across Balinese culture, including in cultural festivals such as Galungan and Kuningan.
