Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, has been speaking out about the future of tourism in Bali.

As the iconic tourism destination has been receiving criticism for being too crowded, the Tourism Minister has made it clear that the problems can and will be solved.

2025 will be the year in which tourists are encouraged to travel further off the path in Bali.

As destinations like Canggu, Uluwatu, and Seminyak become more popular and busier with holidaymakers, digital nomads, and travelers, the situation poses a unique opportunity for both tourists and the island’s tourism leaders.

Bali’s biggest resorts may be becoming crowded, but there is still so much to explore.

There is so much more to Bali than the resorts on the southern coast, and Minister Wardhana has told the media that better management of tourism on the island and better promotion of emerging destinations will be the key to helping preserve Bali for generations to come and ensure that tourists have a positive experience on the island.

Minister Wardhana explained, “The Minister of Tourism is not sitting idle. In September 2024, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy collaborated with local governments and related stakeholders to launch the 3B tourism package, namely Banyuwangi – West Bali – North Bali, which is expected to enrich the choice of tourism destinations.”

She added, “With these various steps, we are optimistic that we can reduce tourism inequality and develop Bali tourism that is more sustainable and provides benefits to the local community.”

The Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development, Hariyanto, explained during the press conference that “We have also improved coordination with local governments, tourism industry players, and local communities to address issues such as waste management, pollution, and social pressures resulting from tourism.”

In addition to promoting destinations like West Bali and North Bali, Bali-bound tourists can also expect to see more promotion of Indonesia’s five super-priority destinations located around the county. These are Lake Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo and Likupang.

Almost all of Bali’s biggest and most popular tourism resorts have a low-key, crowd-free, and emerging alternative destination. Do you yearn to visit Ubud but don’t want to deal with the traffic?

Check out Sidemen Valley. Located in Karangasem Regency, Sidemen is located along the Telaga Waja River and is home to a stunning collection of five-star hotels, bamboo tree houses, and locally managed villas.

Tourists love visiting the Gembleng Waterfall and Aan Secret Waterfall, especially while wandering through the working rice paddy terraces of the valley.

For those looking for the authentic surfer vibe offered by Canggu or Uluwatu, head a little further west to Medewi.

Home to some of the best waves in the province and an incredibly laid-back atmosphere, cute surf lodges, backpackers, cafes, and crowd-free beaches, Medewi is going to be a vibe in 2025.

For a calm, relaxed beachfront retreat similar to that on offer in Sanur, Nusa Dua, or Seminyak, but without the bright lights, hefty price tags or late-night beach clubs, check out Candidasa.

Located on the southeast coast of Bali and home to a fanatic selection of five-star accommodations, Candidasa is such a hidden gem.

We’re talking crystal clear waters, uninterrupted beach time, and ideally located from must-visit cultural gems like the Gates of Heaven Temple and Tirta Gangga.

As Nusa Penida becomes busier with demand for trips to world-famous landmarks like Kelingking Beach and Diamond Beach absolutely soaring, don’t be afraid to look at island vacations on Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan.

For many expats and residents in Bali, a few nights in Nusa Lembongan is the blissful stay-cation they are after.

With ocean-front bungalows and real authentic island vibes, Nusa Lembongan is where Bali beach dreams will come true in 2025.
