Incredible Laser Light Show Launched Over Bali Rice Terraces For Free

Bali’s most famous rice terraces are launching a new laser light show that is already dazzling tourists.

The show, which is in its train phase until the 1st of December, is free for tourists to enjoy. Pending good feedback, it could become a regular feature of the scheduled events.

The UNESCO World Heritage Jatiluwih Rice Terraces are some of the most impressive and important rice terraces in all of Bali.

The working rice paddies are visited by thousands of tourists every week, and tourism managers are always on the lookout for ways in which they can attract more visitors and create more engaging, inspiring, and memorable experiences for visitors.

The new laser light show is proving to tick all the right boxes, with tourists already blown away by the dancing beams and the iconic landscape. The laser beams not only dance over the rice paddies landscape but also feature animations of animals and mystical creatures.

Tourism Manager for Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, Ketut Jhon Purna, told reporters, “Our plan for the future is to have a nighttime show for tourists.”

Until now, tourists have only been able to visit the rice terraces between 9 am and 6 pm, and leaders like Purna feel there is much magic to enjoy in the landscape under the cover of darkness.

Purna told reporters, “The presence of this laser light animation attraction can attract tourists to visit the Jatiluwih tourist attraction. It also makes tourists who stay overnight feel at home.”

It’s true that most visitors to Jatiluwih Rice Terraces visit as a park for a day trip, and only very few tourists stay in the villages surrounding Jatiluwih.

By putting on events that run into the evening, Jatiluwih can help boost support for local accommodation providers and give tourists a great reason to stick around.

Tabanan Regency, where the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces can be found, is one of the most culturally and naturally abundant areas of Bali, and it is perfect for tourists to see the truly authentic connection to the island.

As it stands, the laser show will be put on every evening between 6 pm and 8 pm, at 15-minute intervals throughout the showing period.

The laser show will soon be accompanied by a visual projection, telling the story of the rice fields, from plowing to harvesting, and the cultural relationship between Mount Batukaru and the rice terraces.

Purna has been in communication with the rice farmers who tend to the land. They expressed concerns that the light show could impact vital yields.

Purna has given his assurances and confirmed that a contingency plan is in place if, for whatever reason, the new tourism project negatively impacts the farmer’s crops. He noted, “If later there is a problem related to the harvest, we are ready to compensate.”

Purna added, “If this concept can mature, the show plan will be held for only 2 hours with a duration of 15 minutes per broadcast. With the addition of this new attraction, we want to revive Jatiluwih at night as well as to revive the community’s economy.’

For the next month, the light show will be free to enter and enjoy for both locals and tourists. As of the 1st of December, the event will become ticketed.

A visit to the Jatiluwih Rice Teraces is a bucket-list must in Bali. Unlike much of the Tegalalang Rice Terraces outside of Ubud, Jatiluwih tends to feel less crowded at peak times.

To get the best crowd-free experience, it is best to arrive as the gates open or wait until later in the afternoon when day-trippers have started to head home. Visiting later in the day also lines up good timing to enjoy the new light and laser show.

Tickets for international tourists at Jatiluwih cost IDR 50,000 for adults and IDR 40,000, and entry tickets to the UNESCO World Heritage Site can now be paid for by card.

And head to Belulang Hot Springs beforehand, Utu and then the bamboo forests of Angsri after. You might even see fireflies (kunang-kunang) if you explore the area slowly and diligently.

No chance to enjoy a quiet time up in Jatiluwih anymore with these laser lights. Typical Indonesian mentality by arrogantly expropriating public spaces for their money making schemes.

I guess it is "free of charge" until it isn't.
