Tourism leaders in Bali are predicting a boom in demand for watersports activities. Everything from parasailing to banana boating, snorkeling, and jet skis. As more direct flights from China to Bali are confirmed, tourism leaders have an inkling that demand for watersports activities will soar.
Speaking to reporters, I Ketut Jaman, CEO of Bali Melali MICE, said that the launch of the new Xiamen Airlines flight from Xiamen to Denpasar would help boost tourism business in areas like Benoa where watersports activities are very popular.
He said, “the tourism service effort will be crowded again.” Not only is Jaman the CEO of Bali Melali, but he’s also a consulting academic for the Bali Tourism Expert Group who reports to Governor Wayan Koster. He continued, “Hotels, restaurants and water sports and their derivatives will be more crowded.”
Jaman shared that often Chinese tourists tend to choose short stays in Bali, compared to their American or European counterparts, due to the close proximity to the island. He noted, however, that the increase in flights from China will make an immediately noticeable impact on sports tourism businesses and the tourist facilities in areas where these kinds of activities are offered, like Tanjung Benoa.

He added, “This (water sport) can be said to be more specific in referring to Chinese foreign tourists because they like to enjoy tirta (water) tourism activities.” Jaman also predicts that the fast boat services will also get busier as more direct flights from China are added to the schedule at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International. He forecasts demand for trips to Nusa Penida increasing dramatically in the coming months.

Answering questions from reporters about increased flight schedules from Bali Airport to and from other cities, Jaman said there is definitely more to come. He explained, “Currently, we are still discussing with related parties, and we hope that at the end of this year, the route to and from China can return to the same as before the Covid-19 Pandemic…We hope that the connection of Bali Island with China directly can increase the number of visits in the future.”
While China is a big focal point for the tourism industry in Bali right now, officials have also confirmed that airlines from the USA, Japan, Russia, and India have all requested to be added to the flight schedule as soon as possible.
Jaman may have spoken about the demand for watersports activities from Chinese tourists, but in reality, tourists from all demographics love to have fun in the water. Whether from Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Malaysia, India, or anywhere else, watersports tourism is simply good holiday fun for everyone.
Tanjung Benoa Beach and Harbour is the best-known destination for watersports in all of Bali. If you can think of it, you can do it in Benoa! From parasailing to snorkeling to wakeboarding, sea walking, fly fishing, and waterskiing, tourists are truly spoilt for choice.
In fact, things are about to get even better down in Benoa. The area is in the middle of a huge renovation and development project that will transform the area into the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub. The multi-million dollar project will create a greater capacity for cruise liners to dock in Bali, as well as a water sports center, luxury tourism outlets, and a theme park.
Tourists can look forward to enjoying a luxurious new yacht marina and clubhouse, as well as a major tourism experience center that will house local micro, small, and medium enterprises to further boost the local economy. The Bali Maritime Tourism Hub is set to become one of the islands leading tourism destinations and cement the province as a world-class cruising destination.

Great, In many other tourist places there are Seaplane Flights. Scenic, and also can take people from the airport to the beautiful lake on top of Mt Rinjani or even to the lake in Bedugal. No hassle with the traffic. And now in Banyuwangi the government flight school has a new Cessna Amphibian. This is all good news. Skip the traffic and land on the water.
