Bali Leader Confirms Plans For Island’s New Year Celebrations

The end of the year is fast approaching, and Bali is preparing to host the biggest Christmas and New Year celebrations since 2019. The Regent of Badung has confirmed that he will be hosting a fireworks display and festivities on Kuta Beach to call in the year 2023. 

Speaking to local reporters, the Regent of Baundg, I Nyoman Giri Prasta, shared that he and his teams will put on a big fireworks display from Kuta Beach. He also revealed that there are more exciting plans that he will keep under wraps until the big night. He hoped that locals and tourists would come together to celebrate the turn of the year.

He said, “we have shown that Kuta is a very, very good place to celebrate the New Year”. When asked whether the fireworks would be deployed on a boat offshore or on land, he replied, “No, it’s not in the middle of the sea. We’re just outside, on land. Our Tourism Office is collaborating”. 

Speaking separately, the Head of the Badung Regency Tourism Office, Nyoman Rudiartha, said that there would be a flower party on New year’s Eve at Kuta Beach, but he too did not release all the details. He confirmed that more plans for the celebrations would be revealed in the coming days. The event is usually free to the public and, in previous years, has been the biggest fireworks display in Bali over the New Year festival.

He was able to assure reporters that the event would be managed by police to ensure that all who attend can feel safe and enjoy themselves. He said, “We hope that potential tourists will not be affected by current issues. We ensure that tourists coming to Bali are safe” in reference to the recent bomb attack on a police station in West Java and changed to the Indonesian Criminal Code that caused confusion for many potential travelers.

The Chairman of PHRI Badung, I Gusti Agung Rai Suryawijaya, explained to reporters how maximum security efforts remain on going across Bali to ensure public safety. He said, “We really hope that visits will increase at the end of the year before Nataru [Christmas and New Year] because Nataru’s momentum can boost the number of visits. Even though the current number of visits still doesn’t seem to be overwhelming”. 

The number of arrivals in Bali during the festive period may not be ‘overwhelming’ compared to pre-pandemic years, but the island is certainly going to receive a huge influx of tourists. This week officials from Bali Airport confirmed that they had recieved over 400 requests to run additional flights to keep with the surge of demand in flights to Bali. The General Manager of Angkasa Pura I I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, shared that flight demand has drastically increased with 487 requests for additional domestic flights and 11 applications for more international routes.

Bali’s leading part venues have all announced the headline acts for their New Years’ Eve celebrations. Finns Beach Club have confirmed that Diplo will be topping the bill. Over 10,000 people will attend the event with some tickets still available. Diplo is regarded as one of the world’s greatest DJs, and he will be supported by Gordon City, Elderbook and other special guests. 

Atlas Beach Club will be celebrating its first New Year’s Eve and has announced a three-day program of events over the New Year’s weekend. Headliners include Krewella, Daya, Clean Bandit and Timmy Trumpet. In Seminyak, Potato Head Bali has announced that Ben UFO, HAAi, Ivan Smagghe and Manfredas will bring the party to life. Dutch DJ and chart-topping superstar Sam Feldt will provide the soundtrack for NYE 2023 at Cafe del Mar.
