An official from the Badung Tourism Agency has proposed that the central government allow domestic travelers to visit the island despite the partial lockdown implementation.
The Head of Badung Tourism Agency, Cok Raka Darmawan, proposed for the central government to keep allowing domestic travelers to visit the island, despite the partial lockdown on the tourism sector in Bali. He said that implementing more restrictions could potentially affect the Bali economy that has been struggling to survive due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We really appreciate the government’s policy to protect the people from the Omicron variant by extending the quarantine time for international travelers.
But most people in Bali have been struggling to survive since the Covid-19 pandemic struck almost 2 years ago. And it’s been really hard for our tourism sector here. So our only hope right now is the domestic market,” Damawan said on Wednesday (1/12).
He explained that the number of domestic visitors significantly increased in the last several months, thanks to the Covid-19 vaccine that has been rapidly distributed and strict prevention protocols implementation. These resulted in a significant reduction in Covid-19 transmission in most parts of the country, including Bali.
“The Bali airport began to receive thousands of domestic visitors each day. So I hope they won’t put more restrictions as long as all the prevention protocols are properly implemented and the Covid-19 vaccination rate is high,” Darmawan concluded.

Since the virus cannot clearly distinguish foreign from local tourist, it should be proposed that both groups should clearly have identity cards saying LOCAL or FOREIGN. Than the virus will not make a mistake.

Java with a population of over 100 million is rife with Covid. Why is it considered safer to allow tourists into Bali from there with a single vaccination and a PCR test rather than international tourists who have had 2 or 3 jabs and a PCR test? Makes no sense to me.

@Roger, rife with covid? Are you serious? Many have been fully vaccinated. If you have one vaccination you get a PCR test. If you are fully vaccinated get an antigen test.
Domestic tourists along with expats living elsewhere can travel to Bali. What's wrong with you??
Furthermore why would the US CDC put Indonesia on level 1 low risk covid country. Don't try to disrespect the USA either now.

Only 7 million people have died worldwide from 'sniffles'. Hope you are protected as best as possible with 3 jabs.

@Ben, omicron is nothing more than sniffles and a headache,i.e.a common cold, nothing serious, but of course is being blown out of proportion as everything is.

@Roger, perhaps the government has the illusion that this Omicron variant can be kept out. The only possible effect is a delay, if it's more infectious it will make it into the country. It's made it to several European countries already, and some cases are not even linked to people being in southern Africa recently.
