A 37-year-old man named I Made Ari Dwikrisna has been arrested by officers from the Badung Police Department after snatching a cellphone from a Russian woman in Bali.
The Head of Badung Police Department, AKBP Roby Septiadi confirmed that the investigation about this case started after the officer received a report from a Russian national named Veronika Poliacova regarding the incident that happened to her in the Kerobokan area. “The victim filed a report after her cell phone was stolen by a stranger in the Kerobokan area on May 1st 2021.” AKBP Roby said during a press conference on Tuesday (25/5).
The incident occurred when the victim was riding a motorbike on Jalan Raya Umalas Kerobokan, North Kuta on Saturday evening (1/5) around 11:50pm. Unfortunately Veronika was unaware that she was being followed by the suspect that evening when suddenly, the suspect approached Veronika and snatched her cellphone before taking off on his motorbike.
The suspect was finally arrested from his house located on Jalan Suli, Denpasar on Friday (21/5) around 2:00am without resistance. The suspect was arrested along with a motorbike, a stolen iPhone 11 and a cleaver as evidence. “The suspect admitted that he carried the cleaver during his crimes in case he needed to defend himself, and not to threaten the victim. We are currently performing further investigation about him while he is being detained inside the police station.” AKBP Roby concluded.
