A 23-year-old man with initials (RF) has been arrested by Bali police for blasphemous and mocking sacred Hindu traditions in Bali.

The Head of Cyber Crime Unit V from Bali Police Department, AKBP I Gusti Ayu Suinaci confirmed that the suspect was arrested from his place in Pekutatan, Jembrana on Thursday (6/4). The investigation about this case began after the suspect was caught mocking Hinduism in Bali and their Day of Silence celebration (Nyepi Day) that was celebrated on March 14th 2021.

“The investigation began when our cyber team discovered an offensive post that was uploaded through the suspect’s facebook account on March 12th 2021. Shortly after, his post garnered massive backlash from Bali people who are predominantly Hindu.” AKBP Suinaci said. Through his social media account, the suspect condemned the Day of Silence celebration in Bali, and said that all the people who still celebrate it are fools. During the interrogation, the suspect admitted that he used a facebook account that belongs to other people to do this illegal activity.

Aside from the blasphemous, which is sacrilegious and incredibly insulting. RF also used this account for extortion. “He has also been using this account to extort other people by accessing their gallery and threatening them to publish their private pictures if they refuse to transfer him money.” AKBP Suinaci added. The suspect is now being detained for violating several different constitutions such as blasphemy, extortion and accessing other people’s private information without permission.
