The Indonesian Marine Force lost contact with one of their submarines along with 53 people onboard during a drill in Bali’s northern coastal area.

The Head of the Military Information Center, Major General Achmad Riad confirmed that the submarine that was made by a German company in 1979 was lost in the Bali Sea on Wednesday morning (21/4) around 4:25am. “The incident occurred during a drill early morning on Wednesday. The fleet began to submerge at 3:00am, it all went as planned until the commander of the drill tried to give authorization to launch one of their torpedoes. They suddenly lost their position and communication.” Riad said during a press conference on Thursday (22/4).

He explained that the submarine was lost around 60 miles offshore. The Marine Force has deployed 5 of their ships and helicopters to start searching for the missing submarine. Authorities found oil spots during their search, but Riad is still unsure if it was from their submarine. “We have deployed 400 military officers to start searching, along with support from several different institutions such as Search and Rescue and The Buleleng Police Department.” Riad added.

Neighboring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia confirmed that they would send their tracker ships as a form of support to find the missing submarine. Meanwhile one the Marine and Fishery Experts from the Bali Provincial Government, I Ketut Sudiarta said that according to his analysis of the information they have, he predicted that the submarine sank 700 meters deep in the northern coastal area. “The submarine probably sank 700 meters deep in an area that is known for its strong current inside the sea trough, the Marine Force has been using this area for war simulation for many years.” Sudiarta said.

Never would suggest to anybody to buy German submarine, at least not after WWI & WWII, it's bad karma, similar happened to Argentinian submarine not long time ago.
